UMBC’s President Freeman Hrabowski was featured in a piece on CBS’s 60 Minutes last Sunday, Nov 13, for leading the University to become a powerhouse in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). The UMBC campus is home to the bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park and Audacious Inquiry’s headquarters.
In the piece, Dr. Hrabowski talks about the importance of producing highly educated and qualified scientists and engineers, and his dedication to ensuring that all high-achieving students who are committed to pursuing advanced degrees, including minorities, have the same access to a top-notch education. Under his leadership, UMBC has been ranked the #1 “Up and Coming” university in the country by U.S. News & World Report for the last three years and this year it was ranked 4th for “Best Undergraduate Teaching,” tied with Yale and above Brown and Stanford.
Research Park companies like Ai enjoy a symbiotic relationship with the university, promoting jobs and internships at the science and technology companies in the Research Park for students majoring in STEM fields.
